At the start of the 1980's in the U.K the economy was in deep recession, unemployment was high and the right wing beginning to flourish. Moore extrapolated this into a not too distant dystopian future of 1997 where Britain had become an Orwellian fascist state.

What's interesting

Moore made V a personification of anarchist figures throughout history and with David Lloyd's contribution of the look of the Guy Fawkes made V very theatrical.
