The Goldfinger novel has a fundamental flaw in author Ian Fleming's plot where the titular villain's main masterplan was to steal all the gold in Fort Knox , in reality and as Bond himself points out in the film the heist would take an unworkable twelve days ,so the plot was modified that Goldfinger would turn all the precious metal in Fort Knox radioactive, making his personal stash even more rare and valuable
